Sport – Remedial – Relaxation Massage

Massage is the practice of soft tissue manipulation with physical, functional, and in some cases psychological purposes and goals. Massage involves acting on and manipulating the body with pressure – structured, unstructured, stationary, or moving – tension, motion, or vibration, done manually or with mechanical aids. Target tissues may include muscles, tendons, ligaments, skin, joints, or other connective tissue, and as well as lymphatic vessels. To understand the difference of all types of massages see below:

Sports Massage

All keen sports people have one thing in common, whether they are competitors, keep fitters, dancers or weekend skiers – they all constantly push their bodies to try to improve their performance.

Sports massage can help during training:

Regular massage, using the therapist’s understanding of the sport, will speed up removal of waste materials from the muscles, enhancing the quality of rest between training sessions. It can pinpoint and treat ‘niggles’ before they become injuries and, used regularly, lengthens muscles, improving flexibility and range of movement. This reduces the risk of injury, so you are less likely to miss training sessions. Sports massage is also extremely useful for people with physically demanding jobs.

Sports massage can help pre-event:

Deep tissue massage given in the day or two prior to an event. This is geared to the specific sport – skating clearly needs a different approach to snooker.

…and post-event

Use this massage session to soothe after an event. The improved circulation removes the build-up of waste products and increases nutrition to the depleted tissues. You and your muscles deserve to relax and recuperate.

Benefits of sports massage include:

  •     Increased flexibility of muscles & joints
  •     Injury prevention
  •     Accelerated recovery from training
  •     Increased training loads
  •     Increased self awareness & trouble shooting potential problems
  •     Restoring muscle balance
  •     Rehabilitation following injury
  •     and of course sports massage promotes relaxation

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is recommended after injuries or accidents and when problems seem to linger. Most chronic problems like back ache can be treated by remedial massage extremely effectively.

Remedial massage uses a full range of massage techniques to treat:

  •     Sore neck & shoulders
  •     Back ache
  •     Hip problems
  •     Knee & ankle problems
  •     Chronic muscular aches & pains

You will receive your relaxation massage in the comfort of our treatment room.. where you will be treated on our professional, comfortable medical & adjustable treatment couch. The atmosphere is relaxed, and can be enhanced by mood lights and music of your choice. We use a plain, unscented oil. In the course of a treatment you may want to just pursue the thoughts in your head, float and follow the total sensuousness of the physical experience, or alternatively you may want to chat. It is your session which we endeavor to tailor to your requirements.

Why Relaxation massage?

Most people spend their entire lives worrying about other people: earning a living, hurrying to exercise at the gym before continuing with other assorted chores. How often do you stop and do absolutely nothing? How often do you pamper yourself and indulge your mind and body? We all need to stop occasionally and recharge our batteries and put ourselves first. Massage can be energizing and invigorating, or calming and relaxing. It is your choice what sort of treatment you have: simply explain how you feel and what you need.
